Its discovery in 1963 was due to the exploitation of a quarry. Archaeological work has revealed human occupations from the Middle Paleolithic, as a shelter for Neanderthal hunter-gatherers, and Superior, as a sanctuary, to the Late Neolithic, the latter period marked by a necropolis. Outside the cave is a Neolithic Rock Sanctuary and a small Chalcolithic settlement. The cave is not only interesting for its geological beauty, but also because it has traces of engravings and paleolithic cave paintings with diverse motifs.
