It is attributed to the Castle of Óbidos Roman origin, probably based in a "castrum". It was later fortified under Arab rule. After conquered by Christians (1148) it was repaired and expanded several times. The Castle mixes elements of the Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Baroque styles. In this beautiful medieval examplary, various events are organized during the year, such as the international chocolate festival, the theater festival and the medieval market.
