The Botanical Garden of Ajuda (JBA), ISA's Technological Support Unit, belongs to it since 1910, integrated as a teaching and research infrastructure. It was founded in 1768, having been designed by an Italian botanist, Domingos Vandelli, who came from Padua and was called by King D. José to teach his princes. JBA is the first Botanical Garden in Portugal designed to maintain, study and collect as many species as possible in the plant world. It has an area of almost 4ha and the architecture of the Garden follows the Renaissance models with ornaments of Baroque influences (such as the central fountain and the stairs). In its surrounding area are: the Ajuda Palace, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Cultural Center and the Belém Tower.
