The origin of the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães goes back to the end of the 10th century / beginning of the 11th century , when the Portucalense County began to assert itself and the monks of Cluny introduced the monastic rule of São Bento, becoming one of the richest and most powerful monasteries of the north of Portugal.
