Lagoa do Fogo (Fire lagoon) is one of the largest lagoons of the Azores archipelago and the second largest of São Miguel Island. Formed about 15,000 years ago with the volcanic eruption of Fogo volcano, also known as the Agua de Pau volcano, captures the attention by the color of its water, a breathtaking deep blue. Still conserving a wild fauna and flora, it is an important lagoon for the region due to its drinking water supply and is one of the main postcards of São Miguel Island.
