Ilha de São Miguel

Although the best known legends romanticize the history of its formation, the reality is that the Lagoa das Sete Cidades was formed in the crater of a volcano that erupted in 1445. The Caldera is formed by two large lakes that have two shades (one in blue and one in green) and that are separated only by a bridge. The reason for the different colors is explained by the depth and concentration of algae in the lakes and the reflection of the sky on the water surface. From Vista do Rei Viewpoint or Cerrado da Freiras Viewpoint, you can enjoy and register the one of the most photographed attractions of the Azores.
