This garden is owned by the Autonomous Region of Madeira and is part of the Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation. With an area of approximately 8 ha (5 ha of garden area), it is located near the center of Funchal, between 150 and 300 m in altitude. It brings together a large number and diversity of plant species (around 3000) from ecologically well-differentiated areas of the globe. Throughout the garden, the plants are identified with the scientific name, common name, family and place of origin, highlighting the endemic species of Madeira.
