A 15th and 16th century building, Manueline-Mudejar and Renaissance style built to replace an earlier Gothic temple, which still has some remains. The Royal Palace was annexed and was considered as the Royal Church, in which important ceremonies were held, like the marriage of Prince D. Afonso and D. Isabel of Castile in 1490. The most popular curiosity lies in the Chapel of Bones, formed entirely by human bones (17th century), with the intention of provoking the reflection on the transience of human life. Here is buried the first great Portuguese playwright, Gil Vicente (1536).
