The Cabinet of Natural History of the University of Coimbra is part of the Museum of Science. The cabinet includes private collections and others resulting from harvests made by the professors of the Faculty of Philosophy. The progressive enrichment of the Cabinet's estate led to the incorporation of private collections by Domenico Vandelli, Rollen Van Deck and Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira (1756-1815). This way, one may admire collections such as the one of the several Brazilian fishes whose origin dates back to a trip to the Amazon in the 18th century, which were preserved dry using the herbarium technique.
