Once a Palace of the Inquisition, with the introduction in Portugal of the Court of the Holy Office in 1536, over time, has been undergoing various works of expansion and adaptation. It was in the context of a major project of requalification of its heritage, that in 2013, the Foundation gave it a new vocation, functioning today as a Center of Art and Culture. Inside the building there are two compartments that deserve attention: the Court Room (17th Century) and the Inquisitor's Cubicle (with paintings from 1712). Also the decorations of the garden gallery are the most interesting artistic manifestations of its kind in Portugal and a unique example of the palatial mural painting of the first half of the 16th century, being accessible to the public through guided tours.
