Located on São Miguel Island, Gorreana is the oldest and currently the only tea plantation in Europe. Internationally recognized as a first-class tea producer, it is still a family business to this day. The Gorreana tea plantation began from 1874 and its commercialization in 1883, with the first kilogram of dry tea. The great incentive for its planting is due to the orange crisis in the nineteenth century, which emerged as an alternative cultivation in the region. In the Factory / Museum, you can see all the original machinery in operation, observe the entire tea production process, try and purchase various products.
