The Madeira Aquarium was installed in a replica of an invocation fort to St. John the Baptist (the original built in 1730). Inaugurated with the purpose of preserving and making known to the visitor the marine biodiversity of the Madeira Archipelago's seas, the Madeira Aquarium houses more than 90 native species distributed in 12 exhibition tanks. In a partnership with a local company, it allows the realization of diving activities even without having the certificate, thus being able to experience and learn how to deal with the necessary equipment to practice the sport.
